More Than Just Self-Defence: Why Summer Karate Camps Help Kids Grow

Summer in North Vancouver is something many of us look forward to all year. The longer days, warm weather, family hikes, afternoons at Deep Cove, walks along Lonsdale, community festivals, and time spent outdoors make it one of the best seasons to enjoy everything our community has to offer.

For parents, however, summer also comes with an important question: How can we help our children stay active, engaged, and learning while school is out?

While summer should absolutely be a time for fun and relaxation, it can also be an opportunity for children to build confidence, develop healthy habits, and try new experiences that help them grow.

That’s one of the reasons we created our Senosen Summer Camp.

A Great Introduction to Martial Arts

Our summer camp is designed for both current students and children who have never stepped onto a karate mat before.

No previous experience is required.

In fact, summer camp is often the perfect introduction for children who may be hesitant to try something new. The relaxed and fun atmosphere allows them to experience martial arts without pressure while still learning valuable lessons about discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.

Our instructors create a supportive and encouraging environment where every child can participate at their own pace and feel successful.

More Than Just Karate

In addition to karate, our camp includes fun games, movement activities, and yoga, creating a well-rounded experience that keeps children excited and engaged throughout the day.

Not sure if karate is the right martial art for your child?

When people think about karate, they often think about self-defence. While learning practical martial arts skills is certainly part of the experience, karate offers children much more than that.

Karate helps children develop:

  • Self-discipline
  • Focus and concentration
  • Confidence
  • Respect for others
  • Self-control
  • Goal-setting skills
  • Physical fitness

These are skills that support children not only in martial arts but also at school, at home, and in everyday life.

Why Summer Camp?

One challenge many families face during summer is maintaining healthy routines while school is out. Without regular schedules, it’s easy for children to spend more time on screens and less time being physically active.

At Senosen Summer Camp, children spend several hours each day (9 am to 3 pm) moving, learning, playing, and interacting with other kids. Through karate activities, yoga, games, and structured lessons, they stay engaged both physically and mentally.

We believe children learn best when they are having fun, which is why our camp balances skill-building with plenty of enjoyable activities.

Friendship, Fun, and New Experiences

One of the highlights of summer camp is the friendships that are formed. Children have the opportunity to meet new friends, work together in activities, encourage one another, and create memories they’ll talk about long after summer ends.

Build Strong Foundations This Summer

Summer doesn’t have to be a choice between fun and learning. With the right environment, children can enjoy their break while developing confidence, self-awareness, healthy habits, and valuable life skills that will benefit them throughout the year. If you’re looking for a positive, active, and welcoming summer program in North Vancouver, we’d love to welcome your child to Senosen Summer Camp.
